Today's New in Theaters: 7/31/09

Funny People: Here's one of the ones I've been most looking forward to this summer. Apatow's got the Midas touch right now, as far as I'm concerned, and I'm something of a comedy nerd, so a look at how that industry works will always get a look from me (hell, I even sorta liked Punchline). And as I've said before, Sandler can be good, when he gives a shit. And Apatow is certainly the guy to pull a good performance out of him. Plus, Roger Ebert's glowing review is not only an iron-clad recommendation, but a terrific piece of writing itself.

Aliens in the Attic: Shockingly, this Kevin Nealon-starring family comedy wasn't screened for critics. Can't imagine why! (Okay, I can: It looks fucking terrible.)

The Collector: Neither was the latest from the guys who made those Saw movies. Again, sure can't figure out why they wouldn't want the critics weighing in on a gem like this one!

The Cove: I hadn't heard dick about this documentary before this week, but the reviews on Movieline and DVD Talk have certainly piqued my curiosity. Might be worth a look.

Adam: When I saw this trailer for the first time, it made my eyes involuntarily roll; it just looks soooooo sweet and precious and quirky and twee and "indie rom-com"-y. The reviews have been pretty decent, but that's not gonna get this guy in the theater.
