Today's New DVDs: 10/13/09

Drag Me To Hell: This week's pick-to-click is Sam Raimi's deliciously enjoable return to genre horror. Inexplicably unsuccessful in its May theatrical run, this over-the-top slab of supernatural comedy is anchored by a beautifully zippy Alison Lohman performance and a sense of ghoulish fun.

The Proposal: One of the many, many movies that outgrossed Drag Me To Hell, and for no damned good reason; in spite of some ample chemistry and a sharp performance by Ryan Reynolds, it's just another day at the rom-com mine for Sandra Bullock.

Land of the Lost: There's plenty of talent on-board, but this summer "family" movie feels thrown together out of spare parts and duct tape.

South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut (Blu-ray): I know South Park has put out plenty of good episodes in the (good Lord) decade since their feature film hit screens. But they've never managed to top it--it's razor-sharp satire, with some outstanding songs to boot.
