Guess what? I have a new biweekly limited-run column at Vice, looking back at the amazing movies of the fall of 1997 - and here's the first one, on L.A. Confidential and The Game.
Also, I wrote this about The Discourse surrounding mother! and Woodshock.
And I reviewed Stronger, which is thankfully better than it looks.
It sure is a big hit! It's fine.
I'm covering The Deuce, heavily, because why wouldn't I? Before its premiere, I did a round-up of true porn stories that I hope they squeeze in. And, thus far, I've recapped episodes one and two.
And there are, of course, BD/DVD/VOD guides for 9/5, 9/12, and 9/19.
And last but not least, I went to TIFF.
For Flavorwire, I did this preview piece, and then daily diaries:
Day 1: The Killing of a Sacred Deer, Roman J. Israel, Esq., Molly’s Game, Brad’s Status, and The Final Year.
Day 2: The Shape of Water, Battle of the Sexes, Novitiate, and Ex Libris: New York Public Library.
Day 3: Hostiles, First Reformed, Euphoria, and Outside In.
Day 4: mother!, Lean on Pete, Who We Are Now, and Super Size Me 2.
Day 5: Disobedience, Film Stars Don’t Die In Liverpool, and Scotty and the Secret History of Hollywood.
And then I did several stand-alone reviews for Pajiba: The Death of Stalin, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri, Downsizing, I Love You Daddy, Unicorn Store, and I, Tonya.
And now, TO BED.
